Despite ranking third in the FIFA / Coca Cola mens rankings and winning the World Cup outright back in 2010, Spain has suffered some bad luck at the world's largest football tournament in recent years. La Roja hasn't managed to win a single World Cup knockout round since the team's victory in South Africa. With that said, the team has made a strong start in Group H and will hope to progress to the final on July 19.

With Rodri at the helm and star player Lamine Yamal on the wing, Spain is already a favourite to win the tournament. After two games, the team sits at third place in ESPN's power rankings, and was Opta Analyst's pick for the most likely winner according to 25,000 pre-tournament simulations. Still, the World Cup is nothing if not surprising, so it's still too early to call.

La Liga is one of the best-represented top-flight national leagues at this year's World Cup, with Bein Sports reporting that 86 players from Spain's two highest divisions feature at the tournament.

On the Spanish team itself, we've got Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and goalie Joan Garcia from Barcelona, Alex Baina and Marcos Llorente from Atletico Madrid, and Aymeric Laporte and Nico Williams from Bilbao, amongst others.

For the first time ever, Spain's World Cup squad has no Real Madrid players. But that's not to say that the club isn't represented elsewhere in the tournament, with Jude Bellingham playing for England and Kylian Mbappé playing for France.
